Excelsior Wildfire in Jasper National Park under control

The Maligne Road to Maligne Lake opened to happy motorists and cyclists early in the afternoon of July 22 after wildfires in the area came under control. The Jacques Lake Trail, Maligne Lake area hikes, backcountry trails and campgrounds are open. Medicine Lake, the Watchtower Trail, and the Excelsior Wildfire area remain closed.

A 40 km/hr No Stop Zone through the burn area and along Medicine Lake is in place. Parks Canada will continue to monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished.

The Excelsior Wildfire in Jasper National Park is now considered to be under control. Although there are a few backcountry trails and campsites that remain closed, the Maligne Lake Road is now fully open. Visitors have been able to get to Maligne Lake since Wednesday to enjoy the boat cruise to Spirit Island.
