Canada's coolest living room opens in Jasper

The Jasper in January Festival is the hottest winter festival in the Canadian Rockies and the party has spilled outdoors!

The ATCO Street Party took place on January 25 along Patricia Street in Jasper. While the party was hot, party-goers had the chance to “chill out” in a life-sized living room carved entirely out of ice. Locals and visitors alike were invited to kick back and share a cold one (a cold seat that is!) in the Ice Lounge. Located on the Visitor Information Centre lawn, the Ice Lounge provided the perfect place to stop, relax and share a #MyJasper moment with the scenic backdrop of Whistler’s Mountain.

The furniture will remain as long as Mother Nature permits.

The initiative was created by Tourism Jasper as part of its “Jasper Celebrates” winter campaign to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Jasper in January Festival. Calgary-based Frozen Memories Ice Studio was commissioned to assemble the furniture, which included a three-piece sofa, two chairs, and a coffee table.

“Like any good host, we’re excited to invite everyone to our Jasper home and to offer them the chance to sit and relax and share the experience with their friends in our ice living room” says Mary Darling, CEO of Tourism Jasper. “The Ice Lounge reflects Jasper’s laid-back, chill attitude and we hope people will enjoy the experience.”

The award-winning hashtag #MyJasper is carved into the coffee table to encourage people to upload their pictures to Instagram. Tagging any Jasper image with #MyJasper automatically enters people to win a Jasper Canadian Rockies getaway.
