Calgary’s Doors are Open

Tourism Calgary has launched a regional and national marketing campaign that will run for three weeks to let travellers know that Calgary's attractions, restaurants, hotels and festivals are ready to host the world this summer.

The marketing campaign is in collaboration with Travel Alberta and the Calgary Hotel Association and shares an inviting message that "Calgary's Doors are Open" across the country through radio, newspapers, online advertising, social media and public relations.

The campaign features Mayor Naheed Nenshi who has been nationally recognized for his steadfast and inspirational leadership throughout the crisis. The objective of the marketing campaign is to increase visitation to Calgary in the short term, to encourage travellers not to cancel trips to the city, and to change the perception that Calgary’s hospitality industry is in jeopardy and closed for business.

“Our community was pushed down, and we are pulling her back up. You’ll want to see what this community has accomplished,” said Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “You’ll get a chance to experience the energy of these streets, our great festivals, events and experiences. Summer is the time you want to be here. Come and visit Calgary – our doors are open.”

“We’re excited for visitors to experience everything Calgary has to offer. Our hotels and restaurants are open. More shops and attractions are opening every day. Our western hospitality is at its best and our experiences are ready. Yes, Calgary’s doors are open,” said Tourism Calgary CEO, Cindy Ady.

The summer tourism season is critical for a tourism industry that employs one in 10 working Calgarians and contributes $1.4 billion in spending to local businesses.

“Many of our tourism partners were hard hit by the Alberta floods,” continued Ady. “Most are now up and running, but not all. We will continue to support the efforts of our local businesses to get back up to full operations.”

All but one of the city’s hotels are open (International Hotel) as are the vast majority of Calgary’s signature experiences, restaurants and attractions (with the Calgary Zoo re-opening in stages starting July 31).
