Overview
Due to rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Alberta declared a state of public health emergency on September 16 and implemented new health measures and a Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) for businesses across the province. Details can be found here.
The government has also introduced new supports to help offset costs of implementing the REP and support training for frontline workers.
Starting October 12, businesses and organizations checking for proof of vaccination can begin using the free AB Covid Records Verifier app.
The Government of Canada and Government of Alberta have announced a range of supports for businesses and entrepreneurs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following is a list of key provisions for businesses and their employees, including information about how to access these programs.
Government of Canada
NEW TOURISM SUPPORTS
In October 2021, the Government of Canada announced new targeted support programs to help businesses that continue to face significant pandemic-related challenges, including the Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program. It would provide support to hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, and restaurants through the wage and rent subsidy programs, with a subsidy rate of up to 75 per cent.

HIGHLY AFFECTED SECTORS CREDIT AVAILABILITY PROGRAM (HASCAP)
The Federal Government has announced the launch of the HASCAP, providing financial support up to $1 million to businesses that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, including those in the tourism and hospitality industry and those relying on in-person service.
Applications open until December 31, 2021.

Government of Alberta
THE STABILIZE PROGRAM
The Government of Alberta has also announced one-time funding to support the live experience sector in Alberta. The Stabilize Program will help rodeos, sports, arts and other venue-based organizations offset financial losses through a one-time grant of up to 25 per cent of eligible expenses based on 2018 and 2019 financials.
