The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Trade and to the Manager of PR this role will assist with product development tours, work with Tourism Calgary’s data base system, collaborate with industry partners to facilitate and execute travel trade and media tactics and visits to further advance the image, brand and promotion of the City of Calgary. This position will also attend marketplaces and trade shows when needed and will support both Travel Trade & Public Relations and assist them on activities as required.    

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Trade and Media on the following:
    • Key projects and product development trips
    • Follow up from marketplaces and tradeshows and ensure all notes are entered into the database from the meetings at the shows
    • Media & Trade tracking and reporting for industry
    • In Market activities and initiatives
    • Media story pitches and media/travel trade writing
  • Attend marketplaces & tradeshows when needed
  • Ensure database of all contacts (Tour Operators & Media) are up to date
  • Organize itinerary planning & hosting Product Development Trips and Media Trips
  • Liaise with Tourism Calgary members and industry partners about FAM participants and final itinerary components
  • Manage product development and media trip participant RSVPs and travel logistics
  • Follow-up after FAMs including thank you letters and surveys to clients/partners
  • Coordinate travel trade and media kits
  • Work closely with industry members and partners including: Tourism Calgary Members, Travel Alberta and the Canadian Tourism Commission Required to work flexible hours as needed  

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years in the Public Relations/or Travel Trade industry
  • Experience in the tourism industry an asset along with knowledge of Calgary a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including some media writing experiences – press releases and media pitches an asset
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Proficient computer skills and strong database knowledge
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management an asset
  • Enjoys interacting with people and being a positive advocate for the city
  • Understands the basics of Travel Trade, Tour Operators and the Tourism Industry
