Alberta is one of Canada’s national treasures. All you need to do is look in your back yard to see it’s full of beautiful places, places like Running Reins Ranch, a picturesque city-escape perfect for those looking to reconnect with nature and with each other.
Running Reins Ranch, located southeast of Red Deer in the heart of central Alberta, started as a way for owners Janice and Terry to get out of the city and quickly turned into a dream to provide a soft landing for visitors from all over. For Janice and Terry, Running Reins Ranch is a safe place for people to experience authentic ranch life, get their hands dirty and reconnect with those around them.
You’re not constricted by space, neighbours or obligations here.
Each stay at Running Reins Ranch is unique and guests are encouraged to make it their own. Whether you want to try your hand at making bread or cheese, catching crayfish, snowshoeing, or interacting with the animals onsite, Janice and Terry ensure each guest leaves with a sense of peace, relaxation, and reconnection.
Once Janice and Terry decided to pursue their dream of opening Running Reins Ranch, Travel Alberta was able to support them as they worked to realize their dream. Alongside their determination and grit, the financial and business support from Travel Alberta allowed these two dreamers to create a unique tourism business that benefits everyone!
Running Reins Ranch has not only transformed the lives of Terry, Janice and all who visit, but it has transformed the local community too. Many of the products used at the ranch, from meat to other supplies, come from local producers. There has been a positive economic kick back since Running Reins Ranch opened its doors, creating a full circle experience for everyone in the community.
Terry and Janice are dedicated to paying homage to the people who were here first. Running Reins Ranch is located on the traditional territory of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), Tsuut'ina, Stoney Nakoda, Cree, Saulteaux and Métis peoples of Treaty 6 and 7. Janice and Terry actively partner with local Indigenous communities to offer cultural programs such as elder stories, tipi teachings and dancing and drumming. No matter the type of stay, Running Reins Ranch provides a hands in the earth experience where guests can just be.
