In the foothills of southern Alberta, Granary Road recently completed a major expansion, creating more opportunities for travellers to learn about where their food comes from! Now a year-round attraction, the development includes an Immersive Agricultural Experience with over 30 exhibits celebrating Alberta’s ranching and farming heritage.
Granary Road is what comes out of a bold vision and strong understanding of what the agritourism market needs. It weaves together the fabric of agriculture, science, and family-oriented activities that can be enjoyed regardless of the season, while promoting learning and understanding of Alberta’s unique agriculture sector.
Granary Road’s Active Learning Park includes immersive experiences and exhibits, animal visits, family fun like mini golf, and active adventure parks for kids. There is even Baby Goat Yoga! And that only covers what’s outside. Inside there is VR and tractor simulators, cheese exhibits, wall climbing, playground elements, such as trampolines and slides, as well as educational elements such as how potatoes are sorted.
All of this is set on 36 acres of farmland and features 3.5 kilometers of trails and Granary Road Guides to keep visitors engaged and help build a deeper appreciation for farmers and agriculture.

Agritourism is an important element of helping travellers understand the role of agriculture in Alberta’s day-to-day. With Travel Alberta’s investment and mentorship, Granary Road was able to shift from seasonal operations to a year-round facility that is expected to draw more than 200,000 annual visitors, boost revenue, create jobs, and invite travellers from near and far to learn about Alberta’s agricultural roots.
With additional components such as a farmers' market and field trips for students, this operator has a lot to offer and is a great example of how collaboration in the tourism world can support growth and create more opportunities for visitors to enjoy.
