Already home to some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in North America, Alberta is on its way to becoming one of Canada’s leading wellness tourism destinations. With world-famous landscapes, fresh mountain air, and crystal clear glacial-fed lakes and rivers, it’s no wonder people from all over the world are travelling here to unplug, reconnect with nature, and improve their mental and physical wellbeing.

Beyond our landscapes, Alberta taps into the desire for truly transformational travel – those soul-stirring experiences rooted in the wildness of the outdoors, ancient Indigenous traditions and knowledge, and a rising wave of wellness-focused entrepreneurs offering truly unique experiences and products.

As global wellness tourism grows at a rapid pace—set to reach an estimated $1.35 trillion by 2028, according to Statista—travellers are shifting their focus. No longer satisfied with sightseeing alone, they’re seeking transformative journeys that rejuvenate the body, calm the mind, and awaken the spirit. And Alberta is answering that call.

Here are three highly anticipated Alberta wellness properties opening over the next two years (and a bonus Indigenous wellness experience) that are poised to put the province on the global wellness map.

1. Basin Glacial Waters at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (Opening 2025)

As part of a sweeping renovation, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is unveiling Basin Glacial Waters—a luxury thermal bathing experience set directly on the lakeshore.

Inspired by the natural basin that cradles the lake and fed by glacial waters, the spa will bring the ancient healing traditions of thermotherapy into a modern, alpine setting. The facility will feature both indoor and outdoor elements, allowing guests to soak in panoramic mountain views while cycling through cold plunges, warm baths, and restorative steam.

2. Everwild Canmore (Opening fall 2025)

Opening this fall, Everwild Nordic Spa will be Canmore’s first Nordic spa, brought to life by the team at Basecamp Resorts. Attached to the MTN House luxury hotel, this 43,000+ sq. ft. outdoor oasis will offer a premium hydrotherapy experience, complete with spa amenities and an on-site restaurant.

The property’s design will draw from native materials and traditions, while its spa experiences will harness the healing essence of the surrounding environment. Guests can expect a holistic journey that invites reflection, renewal, and a deeper connection with nature.

Set in Spring Creek and just steps from Canmore’s vibrant Main Street, the Alexander Spa Hotel is ushering in a new era of boutique wellness in the Rockies. This intimate property, neighbouring The Malcolm Hotel, will feature approximately 9,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor spa and wellness space.

Designed to maximize views of the sky, mountain peaks, and water, the Alexander Spa Hotel will offer a seamless indoor-outdoor spa experience year-round. With 44 new hotel suites, this adults-only location will host wellness retreats, Indigenous learning experiences, and corporate educational events, complementing existing offerings at The Malcolm Hotel.

This project is anticipated to create more than 100 jobs and will provide an unmatched tourism driver to the region with its all-season experiences.
