Want to learn how to take your product or activity and make it into a memorable experience for your visitors?
Tourism businesses all over the province had and will continue to have the opportunity to answer this question and be introduced to the world of experience development, creating those goosebump moments travellers are looking for.
Travel Alberta’s first introductory Experience Essentials workshop was hosted in October 2018 in Banff and they have been rolling out across the province ever since.
Our Experience Development Managers are trained to deliver these workshops, working in collaboration with the destination marketing organizations in the host regions.
“As interest from businesses grew, we saw a need to help them determine if developing new experiences was the right option for their business,” said Marty Eberth, Director, Experience Development at Travel Alberta.
And that’s what Experience Essentials does. It helps businesses assess where they are now and whether developing something new is the right choice. If it is, the workshop also coaches operators on what’s involved and provides some inspiring examples from within the province and beyond of businesses that have invested in doing things differently with great success!
The full day workshops include time for participants to network and connect with each other–something they often don’t have the chance to do, leading to conversations by participants about partnerships.
“The workshop is fast-paced and engaging, and there is a high level of energy in the room,” said Eberth.
Workshop participants leave equipped with tangible learnings to implement in their business: the tourism environment, understanding your target audience, the role of storytelling, essential elements in the experience development process, and the importance of collaboration to generate more revenue.
“It helped me to see what kind of people would come (to their experience) and what they are looking for. I also got ideas just talking to other business owners of how to market, and the connection with other business owners is a good idea to stay connected,” said one workshop participant.
Workshops have started again, with even more opportunities to learn the ins and outs of experience development for your business.
