What is stale content?

If a listing hasn’t had a published change in 12 months, ATIS will consider it “stale” and at risk of inaccuracy. Inaccurate information can lead to confused travellers, so periodically checking the accuracy of content is an important part of listing maintenance.

If your listing is marked as stale, it will still be live on TravelAlberta.com. The stale status is only visible to you and your team in ATIS, serving as an internal reminder that the listing should be reviewed.

To clear the stale status, log into ATIS and review your listing. You can either confirm that your information is up to date, or make and submit updates for approval. See the step-by-step instructions below.

Why should I update my listing?

Keeping your listings up to date benefits both you and potential travellers.

Useful and accurate information ranks high in Google’s search results. Search engines consider regularly updated content as more relevant, which can improve the visibility of your listing.

Refreshing your listings also helps travellers find what they need and builds trust in your offering. If you take the opportunity to add a few new photos or details—even better! Learn how to write an effective ATIS description here.

What if I don’t review my listing?

If stale content isn’t addressed within a month, the ATIS team may step in to review, update, or unpublish your listing. You’ll be sent a reminder email before this happens, so keep an eye on your inbox and ensure we have the correct email address on file.

How to address stale content

  1. Navigate to the ATIS dashboard
  2. Click My Listings in the left-side menu
  3. Click the Action Required tab
    1. Stale listings will have an orange Stale Content tag
  4. Click on a stale listing to view its details
  5. Carefully review your listing to ensure all information is current and accurate:
    1. Confirm that your website link is working
    2. Add or update photos as needed
    3. Make sure the description highlights all the features and benefits of your tourism product

If your listing is up to date (no changes required):

  • Click the I’ve reviewed my listing link in the alert at the top of the page. After clicking, the Stale Content tag will be removed from your listing.

If you make updates to your listing:

  • After making edits, a message at the top of the page will appear Listing has unpublished changes
  • Click the Preview Changes link to see how your listing will appear on TravelAlberta.com
  • Once you're satisfied, click the Submit Listing button. Your changes will be sent to the ATIS team for approval. After approval, your updated information will be published on TravelAlberta.com and partner websites.
  • After submitting, the Stale Content tag will automatically be removed.

Tip: We strongly recommend taking this opportunity to update your listing information, check links, and add fresh photos to ensure your content stands out.
