What are ATIS events?

Events are a significant way to attract travellers to Alberta during a specific time frame.

Events in ATIS are either:

  • A single, time-sensitive offering (like a one-day competition)
  • A series of connected offerings over a short period (like a week-long winter festival)

Events published on ATIS can be standalone or annual and must have a combined attendance capacity of at least 100 people. They may also involve a listed local attraction, such as a special exhibit at a museum.

How are events different from regular listings?

In ATIS, events are offerings tied to specific dates. They typically last less than four months.

What is the difference between an event and a seasonal listing?

Seasonal listings are defined by the time of year an offering is available. An event is specific to a day or range of dates, independent of the season.

For example, an outdoor figure skating rink might be a winter seasonal offering, but a three-day figure skating competition would be an event.

What happens after the event finishes?

Your event listing will remain published on TravelAlberta.com for one year after the event date. After one year, the listing will be unpublished and automatically archived. Archived listings can be found under the “Archived” tab in the “My Listings” page on ATIS.

Note: If you’ve created an annual (recurring) event but do not update it with a new date, the listing will be archived as described above.

Learn how to archive your listings here.

How do annual recurring events work?

If you select “This is an annual (recurring) event” when creating your listing, here’s what happens:

  • Once your event is approved and published, it will appear on the upcoming events page and remain live even after the event date passes.
  • After your event date has passed, the listing will move to the “Action Required” tab in ATIS, marked with an orange “Requires Scheduling” tag. This means it’s time to add next year’s dates.
  • You’ll get a reminder email six months after your event, letting you know it’s time to update your listing for the next year.

Adding next year’s dates

To add your new event dates:

  1. Open your event listing and locate the orange alert at the top of the page.
  2. Click “Edit Dates”.
  3. Select your new dates in the window that opens, and click “Save Changes”

Your event listing will be updated automatically on TravelAlberta.com

If your event is no longer available, you can request its removal.
