PROGRAM SUMMARY

Grow your business to its greatest potential

Investment range

  • Organizations can receive between $75,000 and $500,000 from Travel Alberta
  • Operator must contribute at least 25% of total costs (example: Travel Alberta could invest $375,000 into a $500,000 project, if the operator provides the other $125,000)

Note: We assess the ratio of private to public investment to determine the success of our programs. For every $1 of support provided by Travel Alberta, we aim to drive $3.5 in private sector investment. We factor this into our decision making when evaluating grant applications.

  • EOI submission period: Expression of interest opens in October 17, 2024 and close in November 8, 2024 at 4:00 pm MT. Late submissions will not be considered.
  • Successful applicants receive full intake form: Once your EOI is reviewed, if it meets the requirements, your destination development manager will send you a link to complete a formal grant application in November 2024. Submission deadline is December 2, 2024 at 4:00 pm MT. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  • No guarantees with the application link: Not all operators will receive funding, regardless of EOI outcome. If you have any questions about this process, reach out to tourisminvestment@travelalberta.com.
  • Criteria for projects:
    • Your infrastructure project must be "shovel ready," which means you've already gotten all the necessary approvals, permits, and financing in place.
    • You need to have secured at least half (50%) of your financial commitment to the project to apply for funding.
      • Example of a $500,000 project:
        • If an operator can provide the required 25% matching contribution (for this example, $125,000) Travel Alberta can invest up to 75% of the project (for this example, $375,000).
        • To apply for this funding stream, you must have secured at least 50% of your required matching contribution (in this case, $125,000 / 2 = $62,500).
  •  Travel Alberta's authority: Travel Alberta has the final say in managing funding requests. All programs are highly competitive, and we may have to say no to projects based on not meeting certain eligibility requirements or based on competition of funds.
  • Funding approval process and timing: The investment decisions for the 2025-26 intake period will be made in early 2025. If Travel Alberta approves your funding request, you will be sent a Travel Alberta grant agreement in early 2025.
  •  Receiving the funds: Once everything has been finalized and the agreement has been executed by both parties, the funding will be deposited in Spring 2025, directly in your bank account through an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

Please take your time to prepare your application and make sure you meet all the requirements.
