Position summary

This is a full-time, permanent role on Travel Alberta’s People and Culture team, reporting to the Director, People and Culture. The successful candidate will work with leadership to provide support, expertise, and strategic guidance in fulfillment of our people strategy, including recruitment, career development, employee relations, performance management, compensation, employee engagement and culture.

The primary responsibilities are to lead Travel Alberta’s recruitment and employer brand strategy and activities as well as activities and programs to support team members’ career development. This position leads one (1) direct report and is responsible for supporting the management of the People and Culture budget.

Required qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in human resources management, business or a related field
  • 5 or more years’ progressive experience in human resources in a generalist role, including experience at a management or supervisory level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment, selection and retention strategies, employee relations, training and development, total compensation and performance management
  • Collaborative with ability and passion to engage with others authentically, establish trust, and maintain effective relationships at all levels
  • General knowledge of employment-related legislation with the ability to interpret and apply provincial and federal legislation as it relates to employment.
  • Excellent analytical skills; proven strategic planning skills with ability to understand business plans and recommend people and culture programs to support desired business outcomes 
  • Willingness and ability to be hands-on as and when required
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset

Position responsibilities

  • Provide timely and high-quality people and culture service to the organization
  • Provides advice on best practices and guidance on the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures and legislation
  • Ensure consistency in application of all People and Culture policies and practices at Travel Alberta in alignment with the organization’s vision, mission and values
  • Support all employee lifecycle activities including onboarding, separation and terminations
  • Establish appropriate measures for People and Culture programs and activities and regularly provide reports and interpretations to leadership
  • Oversee Travel Alberta’s recruitment process including the development of attraction and retention strategies in line with the employer brand
  • Oversee payroll to ensure accuracy and efficient processing
  • Provide guidance to leadership and team members on payroll, benefits programs and employment legislation requirements
  • Remains current and knowledgeable in internal and external approaches to compensation
  • Support Travel Alberta recognition programs, both formal and informal
  • Support performance management process to ensure team members have appropriate objectives and receive ongoing coaching, development and feedback
  • Participate in planning and implementing initiatives related to engagement survey feedback
  • Lead wellness initiatives
  • Develop a rapport with team members to promote trust and open communication in support of People and Culture objectives and employee engagement
  • Foster a healthy and respectful workplace
