Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Travel Trade, the Specialist, Travel Trade is responsible for providing a variety of project-specific and administrative services to the North American Travel Trade Team that contribute to the strategic and tactical proficiency of the business unit.

Position Requirements

The Specialist, Travel Trade works to ensure cross-team collaboration to streamline projects that focus on developing business with tour operators and travel agents in Canada and the U.S. in order to grow the Alberta visitor economy.

Projects may include, but are not limited to: processing expenses and invoices, budget reconciliation, general administrative duties, research and reporting, supporting joint marketing agreement partnerships, itinerary development and general tour operator and travel agent client support. Leadership in planning and facilitating familiarization tours, planning and logistical support for tradeshows/marketplaces/training opportunities. Content creation and support of content maintenance for website, e-Newsletter, travel trade planner and online training program. Administration and logistics support for Travel Alberta’s USA based, travel trade in-market business development directors.

Key Requirements

  • Knowledge of Alberta tourism product
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills enable you to manage competing demands and urgent deadlines.
  • Strong relationship building and teamwork skills to foster relationships with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMO’s), Industry Partners and internal teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and organization skills- Experience with e-Newsletters and media buys is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of branding and creative assets
  • Budgetary experience, invoice/expense reconciliation, tracking, analyzing and reporting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Knowledge and of Photoshop, InDesign or Sitecore would be considered an asset.

A Degree/Diploma in Marketing, Tourism or Business is complemented with at least three years of marketing-related experience (tourism industry is an asset). Special Requirements

Some minor travel may be required. Some overtime may be required.

This position is based in the Calgary office. Classification: Specialist 1, Salary Range: $58,752-76,368

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Employment Status: 1 Year Term

Term: August 2015 to September 2016
