The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre hosts conventions, trade shows and meetings for national, international and local groups. We are currently looking to fill a full time position of: SALES MANAGER

Reporting to the Director of Sales, this position is responsible for generating new convention and trade show business to the Centre.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages specific market segments/geographical locations to generate and secure new sales and to increase market share in the convention and trade show sector
  • Prospects and conducts sales calls and initiates telephone solicitation to potential/existing clients to generate business leads
  • Follow-up on internal and external leads
  • Development of proposals for new bookings and negotiating and executing contracts
  • Works closely with hotel and tourism industry partners to develop selling synergies for the city
  • Partners with other energy cities to attract convention and trade show business to our locations
  • Promotes and represents the Convention Centre at trade shows, conventions and industry events
  • Provides client familiarization tours
  • Develops an annual sales activities plan, including financial figures, which will become part of the annual sales budget
  • Participates in the development of the annual sales and marketing plan
  • Demonstrates an interest in keeping current on the latest trends and economic conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Assets

  • Highly motivated individual with a proven track record of sales growth achievements in the hospitality/tourism industry
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of industry sales experience and a post-secondary education in a related discipline
  • Possess strong sales intelligence; ability to manage the sales effort to develop, nurture and maintain strong ongoing relationships; excellent understanding of relationship selling
  • Possess high energy, positive attitude, and is a self-motivated team player
  • A good listener who is resilient and goal oriented with excellent organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, negotiation, analytical, time management, multi-tasking and communication skills with well developed written and verbal presentation skills are essential
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Must pay attention to details and be customer service oriented
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft office
  • Previous experience using a CRM system would be an asset
  • Event planning and logistics experience would also be a definite asset
  • Must be available to travel and there will be times when you are required to work some overtime and weekends
  • Maintain a valid passport and any other travel related documents necessary for the purpose of business related travel
