Title: Historical Walking Tour Guide

Terms: Part-time Employment, 1-3 nights per week (negotiable), May through September

Reports to: Co-Managers

The Friends of Jasper National Park are looking for a Historical Walking Tour Guide to lead our Jasper…A Walk in the Past tour a few nights per month.

Key Responsibilities

The Historical Walking Tour Guide will be responsible for all aspects of the Jasper…A Walk in the Past tour:

  • Learn script for Jasper…A Walk in the Past, infusing your own interests and stories;
  • Learn about the Friends of Jasper National Park (including programs, projects, events, store) so that information can be shared on the tour;
  • Lead groups of visitors on this guided history tour through the Jasper town site;
  • Ensure the safety of visitors on each tour, looking for potential hazards along the way;
  • Answer visitor questions about Jasper in a friendly, informative manner;
  • Keep statistics related to nightly program; and
  • Act as an ambassador for the Friends of Jasper National Park at all times.

Skills & Qualifications

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • an interest in local history;
  • excellent communication skills, oral and written. Preference may be given to candidates who are proficient in both of Canada’s official languages;
  • comfort speaking in front of large groups;
  • some interpretation experience (formal or informal);
  • an outgoing personality;
  • the ability to work with the public and volunteers in a friendly, positive, and professional manner;
  • the ability to use creativity to deliver interactive interpretive programming for both children and adults;
  • self-motivation, with an ability to work well on own or with others;
  • a passion for wild spaces, the outdoors and Jasper National Park; and
  • valid first aid and CPR certification (or obtain before the start date); and
  • a criminal record and enhanced security check is required for all programming positions (must obtain before the start date).
