19th Annual Alto Awards

The Alto Awards recognize individuals and organizations committed to enriching Alberta's tourism industry and inspiring others by demonstrating what can be achieved by working together.
The Alto Awards are presented in ten categories in conjunction with the 20th annual Travel Alberta Industry Conference in Banff, October 27–29, 2019. The event also celebrates the Alto Ambassador, a peer nominated award recognizing an exceptional Albertan making an outstanding contribution to our tourism industry.

2019 Alto Award Finalists

Alberta Pride

Alberta is a diverse and vibrant province and these qualities are reflected in the tourism products and services offered. The Alto Alberta Pride Award was created to recognize a business or organization that captures the essence of the Alberta experience. What is the Alberta experience? It could be what your guests do when they arrive or how they feel when they leave. It could be a vacation experience that’s unique to the province or it may be that your guests perceive Alberta as a very special place.

MARKETING EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN OR PROJECT (UP TO $20,000)

The Alto Marketing Excellence Award recognizes creative marketing campaigns that encourage travel to, and within, Alberta. Emphasis is on original and effective campaigns that push the boundaries of common current practices and result in greater than expected return on investment. Total budget for the campaign or project must be equal to or less than $20,000.

MARKETING EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN OR PROJECT ($20,000 - $75,000)

(Sponsored by Calgary Hotel Association)

The Alto Marketing Excellence Award recognizes creative marketing campaigns that encourage travel to, and within, Alberta. Emphasis is on original and effective campaigns that push the boundaries of common current practices and result in greater than expected return on investment. Total budget for the campaign or project must be between $20,000 and $75,000.

The Alto Marketing Partnership Award recognizes partnerships of two or more organizations exhibiting exceptional achievement in tourism marketing and who demonstrate the success of working together.

NEW TOURISM EXPERIENCE

The Alto award for best New Tourism Experience is designed to celebrate new experience development within Alberta tourism. Submissions must be newly developed experiences or programs that provide travelers with a rich and authentic experience and highlights the people, places and cultures of Alberta. The winning submission will have recently delivered this innovative experience to market and has demonstrated that it is unique within its competitive environment, has contributed to the success of the business and has provided a positive impact to the tourism industry in Alberta.

OUTSTANDING SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

(Sponsored by Parks Canada)

Sustainable tourism development meets the needs of visitors and local communities while protecting and enhancing the environment. The management of resources focuses on maintaining environmental sustainability, and social and cultural integrity while contributing to the overall well-being of the local community.

Service Excellence

Honours an organization in the tourism industry that demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, delivering outstanding customer service to their visitors, employees, suppliers and other stakeholders.

TOURISM CONTENT

The Alto Content Award recognizes storytelling content that fulfills a strategic goal for the organization.  The content may be a photo, social media story, print story, blog post, or video that tells a great story and garners engagement with travelers.

The Alto for Tourism Event or Festival of the Year award is designed to celebrate events and festivals which drive tourism attendance to their region, highlight unique Alberta programming and brings an economic impact to their community.

Bob Williams named 2019 Alto Ambassador.

Every year one member of Alberta’s tourism community is recognized for their exceptional contribution to the industry. This year’s Alto Ambassador is Bob Williams, General Manager of Calaway Park, Western Canada’s Largest Outdoor Family Amusement Park.
